Former teen idol and Partridge Family star David Cassidy was convicted of DWI in Florida in 2011, arrested for felony DWI in Schodack, NY in 2013, and in Los Angeles this year. Cassidy was ordered to serve 12 months of probation his driver’s license was suspended for six month following the Florida conviction. The court ordered Cassidy into alcohol rehabilitation after his L.A. arrest, which is where is was supposed to be last week when he requested that his plea and sentencing be dealt with via mail and his attorney. The plea down dropped the felony charges to a misdemeanor with no jail or probation orders.
Saying that he was concerned about the “crus of media detracting from the seriousness of the matter”, Cassidy’s attorney was to appear in court on behalf of the defendant, as Cassidy was to be undergoing the court order rehab.
The Times Union reports that the plea deal remains in effect though some technical issues must be worked out. Cassidy’s attorney said the issues were not significant, and that the case could be resolved before the September court date. Cassidy’s attorney had said that being at the racetrack had no bearing on the adjournment of the Cassidy DWI case. However, on the day his attorney was to accept the deal on behalf of Cassidy, the Chief Assistant District Attorney Carmelo Laquidera saw a tweet of a picture of Cassidy at the Saratoga Race track in New York. “If he’s in Saratoga enjoying the races that belies the fact that he’s currently in treatment out of state, thereby he should be able to appear in Schodack town court when he is directed to do so,” Time Warner Cable News reports the DA as saying. The DA then retracted part of Cassidy’s plea deal that allowed him to resolve the DWI case by mail, and scheduled a new court appearance for September 3, 2014. Cassidy New York DWI Arrest
On August 21, 2013, David Cassidy had rented a car and was driving to a friend’s house in Columbia County when he was pulled over by Schodack Police after he failed to dim his bright lights to oncoming traffic at a police checkpoint. Police arrested Cassidy for drunk driving, with some reports saying his blood alcohol concentration was .10, which is above the legal limit.
Cassidy was arrested in Los Angeles after he made an illegal turn and was pulled over by police. California Highway Patrol officers administered an alcohol test which showed the former actor’s BAC was .19. Cassidy was booked for DWI and released on $15,000 bond several hours later.
