Gates Police report that a woman dressed as a zombie was arrested two times for drunk driving on the same night, on the same road, three hours apart, after attending a Halloween Party at a bar in Upstate New York.

According to police, 26-yearold Catherine Butler was stopped by police after being spotted driving with her lights off. During the stop, she was arrested for drunk driving at around 2:00 am on Buffalo Road near Howard Road and charged at the Gates Police Department with a blood alcohol level of .11. A friend picked Butler up from the police department.

Gates Police Lt. Jon Ballard told the Democrat and Chronical that after her arrest, “Somehow, she ended up back in her car.” On Buffalo Road, near the city border, a police officer spotted a vehicle swerving out of the designated lane. Police stopped the vehicle at around 5:00 a.m., and ended up arresting Butler for drunk driving for a second time that night with a blood alcohol level of .09. Officers drove Butler to the station, and after processing, drove her home. Democrat & Chronicle

Zombie Woman Arrested For DWI Has Prior Convictions

Lt. Ballard said that over the past eight years, Butler has had two convictions for Driving While Ability Impaired ( DWAI ). She was first convicted of DWAI in 2006 after being arrested in Gates, and again in 2011 after a Brighton arrest. Butler kept her driving privileges after each of those prior arrests as the charges were reduced to impaired driving offenses.

Ballard told reporters that typically misdemeanor DWI offenders are processed at the station and are allowed to be picked up by a sober driver. He also told the newspaper that generally felony DWI offenders are arraigned in as little as a few hours. Ballard explained that because Butler did not have a criminal history beyond the DWAI offenses, and because no bench warrants had been issued against her, she was released to go home after both arrests.

Butler is currently facing misdemeanor charges of driving while intoxicated (DWI) and driving with a blood alcohol content of more than .08 percent, and she was issued tickets for failing to maintain proper lanes, and driving with no headlights. Butler will be arraigned on November 18 in Gate Town Court.
